    Kanasar is a place of beauty in solitude. Covered by dense green forest of Deodar and Pinus, Kanasar is an ideal place to explore with family and friends in Chakrata Valley, Uttarakhand. View of Kanasar can be painted in just two colors, Green of dense jungle and Blue of clear sky. It's a beautiful and hidden place in the wild which makes it best suited for audacious camping site. As there is no other city near by 20 KM, you will only hear the jungle and melody of birds chirrup. Lighting the bonfire and feeling its warmth with your family gives a feeling of euphoria. You need to get packed food along with, as there are no shops near by. But thankfully, the Forest department supplies fresh water through taps.

    DELIGHTS:
    You'll be amazed to see the famous ancient trees of Kanasar. One tree having a gigantic diamater of 6.35 m is listed as the oldest and biggest Deodara tree in the Asia. A small ancient, Kanasar temple is the pilgrimage here. Photographs taken at Kanasar look true wanderlust. If you are interested in exploring more out of this place, you can go to Budher gufa (2h away) and Deoban (3h away).

    MUST KNOW THINGS:
    Camping in kanasar requires a permission from the Forest Department Office. The office is 10 km before the Kanasar, you will find it on the main road. You can also hire the Forest guest houses, you just need to inform them for hassle free early bookings. Rate of single room with two beds is just Rs 200 (in 2016) per night. Kanasar is not connected to electricity, so it is advisable to bring your own lightings for the night.

    Climate of Kanasar

    Kanasar comes in the hilly region which makes the climate cold. The average temperature of Kanasar is 15 °C (around September). Since the place is full of tall massive trees, it makes the place less windy. In winters, snow covers this whole area and it gets disconnected with the roads. While in summer, the temperature goes upto 28°C.



    How to reach Kanasar

    Kanasar falls in the mid way of Chakrata-Tyuni road. You can reach here by motorcycles and cars. Kanasar is at 30km inside the Pine tree jungle from Chakrata. The journey is as scenic as the place. You will see the beautiful villages and their Apple orchards on the way. Since there is no public transport, hiring a taxi from Chakrata can be an option. You can reach to Dehradun by train, after which Kanasar is around 116 km away. Dehradun can also be reached by air; the Jolly Grant Airport is around 140 km away from Kanasar.
